noodle packaging
The innovative self-expanding packaging designed for freeze-dried food offers a multifaceted approach to sustainability, as it not only optimizes transportation space through compression but is also crafted entirely from biobased and biodegradable materials. Furthermore, upon adding hot water to the packaging, the mechano-active material responds to the water's heat, undergoing a transformation from its compressed state into a serving bowl.

RISE a global leader in cellulose research and development, places sustainability at the core of its mission. The collaboration aims to synergize the expertise of scientists and the creativity of designers in order to use the full potential of their new material PLA-Paper. PLA-paper is a composite material merging cellulose and bioplastic. The material's properties vary depending on manufacturing techniques and treatments.
For this project, we've focused on a mechano-active properties of the material, meaning it responds to external stimuli like temperature changes.
