This Too Shall Pass

Client:

Tomorrow Machine

This is a series of edible and therefore zero waste food packaging were the packaging has the same short life span as the foods they contain. The package and its content are working in symbiosis. The packaging are made from natural materials as beeswax, caramelized sugar and agar-agar gel made from seaweed. The inspiration is fruit peel and how nature itself packages food.

Beeswax
Packaging

In this innovative, eco-conscious food packaging series, the beeswax package is a solution for dry goods like grains and rice. Crafted from beeswax, a versatile natural material, it offers a secure and eco-friendly way to package these items.

Caramelized

sugar packaging

A packaging made of caramelized sugar, coated with wax. This package is made for oil-based food. To open it you crack it like an egg. When the packaging is cracked the wax do no longer protect the sugar and the material melts when it comes in contact with water. You can eat it, throw it in the compost or pour some water on it and it will melt away.

Agar-agar
packaging

A gel of agar-agar seaweed and water are the only components used to make this packaging. The packaging will wither at the same rate as its content. It is made for drinks that have a short life span and needs to be refrigerated, fresh juice, smoothies and cream for example.

The packaging reacts to its environment, for example you could, just by looking at the package, see if it has been exposed to excessive heat during transport.
